The Jawaharlal Lal Nehru Students' Union on Monday wrote to the human resource development ministry complaining about instances of paper leaks, copy pasted questions and other irregularities.

“The question papers of at least two programmes of study at the Linguistics Centre, Political Science and Economics are copied from different available sources. Large chunks of questions in about 60-70 per cent of the questions were found copied from various websites and UGC-NET papers, raising serious issues about confidentiality of papers and potential violations of copyright laws. Many questions are vague, often phrased poorly, others have more than one correct answer out of the given options,” read the complaint in the mail addressed to the ministry.

The students have also alleged that the entrance exam for the MA course in the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning Programme held on May 27 had questions copied from numerous websites.

The students have also raised a paper leak case. “The entrance examination papers of BA 1st year cluster one of Russian, Spanish, French and German held on May 28 were doing the rounds on WhatsApp.”

Alleging that the JNU administration had maintained a “conspicuous silence” over the allegations of the paper leak, the students’ union wrote: “The silence only reaffirms our suspicion about the culpability and incompetence of the university administration.”

The letter, signed by JNUSU president N. Sai Balaji and other members, said: “JNUSU demands an immediate judicial probe into the matter. We also demand that the JNU V-C must be removed for this shocking leak, massive copying of question papers from online question banks and ruining careers and lives of students through his dubious model of online entrance exam. We request MHRD to direct JNU to immediately restore the earlier model of offline examination, which had a suitable mix of subjective and objective questions.”
