Aiming to strengthen the JMM-led alliance’s position before the Assembly polls, Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren on Friday sprung into action after the Election Commission lifted the model of model code of conduct.

Champai announced that the recruitment process of 33,000 primary teachers, which was on halt due to the imposition of a model code of conduct in the state (since March), will be fast-tracked. He also announced slew of flyover projects in the capital Ranchi and early completion of police barracks at Godda, Jamtara and Pakur districts.

The move assumes significance with INDIA bloc wresting three ST reserved Lok Sabha seats from BJP this time, along with retaining two ST reserved seats.

“Directive has been issued from the chief minister office to all the secretaries to complete at the earliest all pending projects. The Jharkhand government wants to go all out to extend its populist schemes and woo masses in the general seats too before the assembly polls scheduled later this year,” said a key aide of the chief minister.

The JMM-led alliance in the state has 47 MLAs — 29 from JMM, 17 from Congress and 1 from RJD — in the state assembly having a strength of 81 members.

The opposition BJP has 26 legislators and its AJSU party has three. The NCP and CPI (ML) have one lawmaker each, apart from two Independents. There is also a nominated member from the Anglo-Indian community.

“Former chief minister Hemant Soren has asked Champai Soren to go all out in the remaining months before assembly polls to attack the BJP-led opposition targeting their shortcomings and completion of schemes and ensuring welfare schemes of the government reaches the beneficiaries,” added the aide.

On his X handle, Champai Soren has blamed the previous double engine governments (a term used for BJP governments at the state and the centre especially during the erstwhile Raghubar Das regime) for ignoring the traffic problem in Ranchi.

“Now the JMM-led coalition government is getting three flyovers constructed apart from three flyovers on which work has already begun. After the construction of six new flyovers and roads, people will get relief from the problem of traffic snarl,” the chief minister wrote on his social media handle.
