Confirming the incident, Jammu’s additional director-general of police Anand Jain said an operation was under way.

Ashwani Kumar, former sarpanch of Saida Sukhal village, said a civilian was injured in the militant firing.

“Two militants are said to have knocked on a house seeking water. The family got suspicious and bolted the door. In the meantime, a man on a bike was passing by. They fired at him, but he escaped. He later called me and said there were some terrorists in the area,” Kumar told The Telegraph.
