The Union cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday gave its nod to extend President’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir by another six months with effect from July 3, indicating that there were no plans of holding Assembly elections in the near future.

“Based on the prevailing situation in the state as stated in the report of the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the extension of President’s Rule in Jammu and Kashmir for a further period of six months with effect from 3rd July, 2019, under Article 356(4) of the Constitution of India,” a release from the Press Information Bureau said.
