Anmol Bishnoi, brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, is learnt to have been detained by the US authorities, sources in the National Investigation Agency said on Monday night.
“We have got information that he has been detained in the US and are awaiting more details through official channels,” said an NIA official.
This is the second major detention of wanted criminals after Arshdeep Singh Gill alias Arsh Dalla was held in Canada early this month.
Anmol is wanted in multiple criminal cases in India, including the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in 2022, the recent killing of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique and also the firing incidents outside actor Salman Khan’s Mumbai home in June this year.
The NIA had included Anmol in its “most-wanted” list and declared a reward of Rs 10 lakh on him.
Earlier this month, the Mumbai police began the extradition process to bring him back from the US after a special court in Maharashtra issued a non-bailable warrant against him. A Red Corner Notice was also issued against him by global law-enforcement agency Interpol.
Lawrence Bishnoi has been in several jails since 2014 but continues to run a 700-strong gang from inside a prison in Gujarat with the help of Anmol and sharpshooters and gangsters like Goldy Brar, Sachin Thapan, Vikramjit Singh, Kala Jatheri and Kala Rana.
Sources said Anmol and one of his close aides, Rohit Godara — both based in the US — allegedly selected “high-profile” targetsand chalked out plans to assassinate them on Lawrence’s advice.
