“Hitler was great when he burned down scums like you,” reads an anti-Semitic message made public by Israel’s ambassador to India, which he received amid the backlash to the comments by a filmmaker on the movie, The Kashmir Files.

The rest of the direct message on Twitter contains an expletive.

Israeli ambassador Naor Gilon tweeted the screenshot of the message, saying: “Just wanted to share one of a few DMs I got in this direction. According to his profile, the guy has a PhD. Even though he doesn’t deserve my protection, I decided to delete his identifying information.”

Referring to the support he received, Gilon added later: “I’m touched by your support. The mentioned DM is in no way reflective of the friendship we enjoy in India, including on social media. Just wanted this to be a reminder that anti-Semitism sentiments exist, we need to oppose it jointly and maintain a civilised level of discussion.”

Nadav Lapid, the Israeli filmmaker and the international jury chair at the International Film Festival of India this year, had described The Kashmir Files as “vulgar propaganda”.

Three other foreign jurors have supported Lapid. Lapid’s comments were aimed at the film, not the sufferings of the Pandits in Kashmir.
