The INS Vagsheer, the sixth Scorpene-class submarine of Project-75, was launched by defence secretary Ajay Kumar at the Mazagon Dock in Mumbai on Wednesday.

India’s naval fleet is set to receive more firepower with the launch of the INS Vagsheer. Project-75 is a venture aimed at building six Scorpene-class submarines.

The INS Vagsheer will undergo tests and trials for more than a year to ensure it is fully combat-worthy, Kumar said.

The Scorpene-class submarines have superior stealth features such as advanced acoustic absorption techniques, low radiated noise levels, a hydro-dynamically optimised shape, and the ability to launch attacks using precision-guided weapons, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd said.
