The Indian high commission in Canada has issued an advisory to Indian citizens and those planning to travel to that country to be careful, particularly in capital Ottawa where emergency was declared on Tuesday in view of the ongoing protests against the vaccine mandate on truckers.
The advisory comes in the midst of much cheer in the Right-wing ecosystem in India for the trouble Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is having in dealing with the protests. They are seeing it as payback for Trudeau having spoken up for the farmers’ protests at Delhi’s borders.
Besides Ottawa, which has been under siege since January 30, there have been protests in Toronto that has a sizable Indian diaspora. Indians have been advised to maintain a high degree of caution and remain alert, avoid the protest areas and follow the instruction of local authorities and curfew rules. The mission has set up a special emergency number to help Indians stranded or affected by the protests.
