Prime Minister Narendra Modi has convened an all-party virtual meet on June 19 to discuss the situation on the India-China border, his office said on Wednesday.

Twenty Indian Army personnel, including a colonel were killed in the clash with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh on Monday night, the biggest military confrontation in over five decades that has significantly escalated the already volatile border standoff between the two.

"In order to discuss the situation in the India-China border areas, Prime Minister @narendramodi has called for an all-party meeting at 5 pm on 19th June. Presidents of various political parties would take part in this virtual meeting," the PMO tweeted.

The Opposition, including the Congress, has been demanding full disclosure in the India-China border dispute, saying the central government is hiding facts. Congress leaders such as P. Chidambaram and Rahul Gandhi have regularly questioned the Prime Minister's 'silence' on the issue.

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi tweeted: "Why is the PM silent? Why is he hiding? Enough is enough. We need to know what has happened."

On Tuesday, Chidambaram said in a series of tweets: “We have seen the official statement issued by the ministry of external affairs that says nothing new after the news broke out at 12.52pm today thanks to an Army WhatsApp group.”

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi slammed Modi for the loss of lives and demanded that he admit his "failure" to defend the country.

Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah dubbed as "seditious" and "anti- people", Modi's 'silence' on the violent clashes, levelling similar allegations against defence minister Rajnath Singh.

"It's almost seven weeks since the border disputes started with China. However, till now the Prime Minister Narendra Modi or defence minister Rajnath Singh did not give any official statement. The silence of the rulers is not only anti-people but also seditious," Siddaramaiah tweeted before PMO's announcement about the all-party meet.
