New Reserve Bank governor Shaktikanta Das was roasted on Twitter after he tweeted on Wednesday that he had taken charge.
Uttarakhand’s controller of communication accounts, Ashish Joshi, who like Das is a St. Stephen’s College alumnus, tweeted: “My College senior has become RBI Governor. He studied History in College. Many of us who studied history in the College are excited, that history students can also aspire for the post now.”
To this journalist Mrinal Pande replied: “But you have also to be a Das.” The word “das” in Hindi refers to a servant.
Das is a former finance ministry bureaucrat who had fielded all questions about demonetisation.
Aam Aadmi Party supporter Kapil, who tweets from the handle @kapsology, tweeted to Das: “Haldi ghaati ki ladaai kab ladi gayi thi? (When was the Battle of Haldighati fought?)”
Former Gujarat minister Jay Narayan Vyas, who had been a confidant of Narendra Modi when he was chief minister, tweeted: “The New RBI Governor Das’s educational qualification is MA (History). Hope and Pray he doesn’t make RBI also a History. May God Bless the New Arrival!!”
Google trends showed that searches for his educational qualifications peaked soon after the announcement.
