The counsel for for Ram Lalla Virajmaan, the deity of Ram in Ayodhya, today told the Supreme Court that Hindus believe Ayodhya is the birthplace of Ram and the court should not go beyond this to know how rational the belief is.

The submission came while the counsel, C.S. Vaidyanathan, was responding to a query by the bench which wanted to know how Muslims can be ousted from the site when Hindus and Muslims were jointly in possession of the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land.

'It was the belief of Hindus to say Lord Ram's birthplace is Ayodhya and the court should not go beyond to see how rational (it is),' Vaidyanath told the five-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and comprising Justices S.A. Bobde, D.Y. Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S.A. Nazeer.

The senior advocate had on Tuesday also told the court that the birth place of Lord Ram is itself a deity and Muslims cannot claim a right over the 2.77-acre disputed land in Ayodhya as any division of the property would amount to 'destruction' and 'mutilation' of the deity.

Fourteen appeals have been filed in the apex court against the 2010 Allahabad High Court judgment, delivered in four civil suits, that the 2.77-acre land in Ayodhya be partitioned equally among the three sides -- the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.
