Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday directed the Simdega deputy commissioner R. Ronita and district police to register an FIR in connection with the torture of a minor girl of the district in Haryana’s Gurgaon by a couple.
The chief minister took note of the torture meted out to a 14-year-old girl from Simdega in Gurgaon and asked the Simdega deputy commissioner to provide medical facilities to the girl and arrange for her safe return to the state and link her with education and the government’s welfare schemes.
Soren has also urged the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the Haryana government to take cognisance of the issue and provide necessary assistance to bring the girl back to her family.
The Simdega district administration informed that the anti-human trafficking unit will leave on Thursday to rescue the girl child. The news about the arrest of a couple in Gurgaon for allegedly torturing and sexually assaulting the Jharkhand girl, who worked for them as a domestic help, was published in a news agency on Wednesday.
The accused Manish Khattar, 36, and his wife Kamaljeet Kaur, 34, were produced before a city court on Wednesday. The court sent Khattar to two-day police remand while his wife was sent to judicial custody.
According to the complaint filed by Pinky Malik, the in-charge of Sakhi centre, Gurgaon, at a police station in Gurgaon, the girl was hired through a placement agency. The couple made her work and also beat her mercilessly daily, it was alleged.
Along with not letting her sleep the whole night, they also didn’t give her any food. Her mouth was completely swollen while injury marks were found everywhere on her body, Malik alleged.
The girl has been admitted to a hospital in critical condition. She is still being treated in the hospital, police said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple hired the girl five months ago to take care of their three-and-a-half-year-old daughter.
