The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in Kerala over the next three days, a month after the state was ravaged by its worst flood since 1924.

The districts of Thrissur, Palakkad and Idukki have been put on red alert. The weather department has forecast heavy rain on Thursday and Friday and very heavy rain on Saturday.

All fishermen who are out in the sea have been recalled to the shores. Those on the shore have been advised against venturing into the sea.

Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan issued a statement asking tourists not to visit hilly areas till further notice. A large number of nature lovers and tourists are heading to Munnar in Idukki to see the nilakurinji, a purplish blue flower that blooms once in 12 years.

The state government will request the Centre to send five teams of the National Disaster Relief Force.
