Hate speech: Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan gets bail

Khan has been given seven days to appeal to a higher court

SP leader Azam Khan who was earlier sentenced to three years in jail over hate speech, has been granted bail and given seven days to appeal against the verdict, reports ndtv.com

Khan was earlier found guilty of hate speech related to his comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer in 2019.

Khan was charged for a provocative speech by the then district magistrate.

The SP veteran is on the verge of losing his membership of the state assembly since he has been sent to more than two years in jail.

Khan was freed from jail earlier this year after the Supreme Court granted him interim bail in an alleged cheating case.

Khan faces nearly 90 cases, including that of corruption and theft.
