The Gujarat government has told the Supreme Court that the 11 men convicted for the gang rape of Bilkis Bano were released on grounds of 'good behaviour' and also that they had been in jail for 14 years.

The apex court is hearing three petitions, two of which are initiated by CPM politburo member Subhasini Ali and TMC MP Mahua Moitra.

The convicts were set free on Independence Day, a decision which had created a flutter around the country and on the Internet.
