Former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his ex-deputy Manish Sisodia, who have hadto vacate their bungalows after spending time in jail and quitting from their posts, have chosen the homes of Rajya Sabha MPs in Lutyens Delhito shift to.
AAP nation convenor Kejriwal has to relinquish his official residence on Flagstaff Road in North Delhi after resigning as chief minister following his release on bail last month. He is shifting to MP Ashok Mittal’s residence on Ferozeshah Road.
Sisodia has also vacated his ministerial bungalow on Mathura Road and moved into party MP and former cricketer Harbhajan Singh’s bungalow on Rajendra Prasad Road.
Both Kejriwal and Sisodia are MLAs in Delhi. MLAs in the capital do not get official quarters unless they areministers.
The AAP had previously demanded a government residence for Kejriwal as he heads a national party. However, the party then announced that its leader has “decided to give up all government facilities, including official residence and security, and live like a common man”.
The move to a government bungalow has been justified on the ground that it is in his New Delhi constituency. Sisodia, however, represents Patparganj in East Delhi but has chosen to continue to remain in Lutyens Delhi.
BJP national secretary Manjinder Sirsa mocked Kejriwal, saying: “He quit as chief minister but has not lost his attachment to a government bungalow.”
