On the inauguration ceremony of Maa Mahamaya Airport in Ambikapur’s Darima, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated virtually from Varanasi on Sunday.
On seeing his virtual presence for people of Chhattisgarh, the residents of Surguja greeted the prime minister with enthusiastic applause.
The air strip at Maa Mahamaya Airport in Darima, Ambikapur has been upgraded under the Regional Connectivity Scheme of the Government of India. This airport is sprawled across 365 acres and has been built at a cost of Rs 80 crore. This airport is of three commercial Visual Flight Rules category and 72 seater aircraft can land on it. The terminal building has been expanded according to the estimated capacity of 5 lakh passengers annually.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said, “Our visionary Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji is starting a new era of development in the Tribal dominated Surguja region by inaugurating Maa Mahamaya Airport of Ambikapur today.”
He said that this airport connects to the aspirations of the community of Surguja. The people here have been longing for years to see a development that this tribal region will also be connected to the rest of the country through air connectivity. The time has come for their dream to be fulfilled. As per the Prime Minister’s wishes the dream of air travel is becoming a reality for those who wear slippers across the country.
The vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to establish better aviation services in the country and connect all parts of the country with it.
Chief Minister said that the inauguration of this airport is a great news for Surguja as well as the entire Chhattisgarh. This airport will connect two big tribal divisions- Bastar and Surjua along with Raipur and Bilaspur. During the tenure of Prime Minister Shri Modi, continuous steps have been taken to intensify air connectivity in Chhattisgarh. The number of facilities and flights have also increased at Jagdalpur, Raipur and Bilaspur airports.
During the inauguration Chhattisgarh Governor Shri Ramen Deka said, “Today is a historic day for the Surguja region, with the opening of Maa Mahamaya Airport, new dimensions of development will open in this region. A better air connectivity will be established for the citizens and industrialists of the Surguja region. After Bastar, Surguja is the second largest tribal dominated area of the state, where this facility is being started.”
