Jailed former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti’s own flock is deserting her Peoples Democratic Party to hold the Tricolour aloft in their hands, brushing aside her prophecy that no one would do so in the Valley if state’s special status was scrapped.
On Sunday, PDP patron Muzaffar Husain Baig unfurled the Tricolour at an event in Jammu. Several partymen joined him.
Baig told the small gathering: “We can only demand that J&K should be given what Constitution guarantees us….”
An expelled PDP former legislator, who requested anonymity, said: “Baig sahib did it to convey to Mehboobaji that she was wrong in her assessment….”
The PDP has already expelled a battery of senior leaders for anti-party activities, a reference to their willingness to engage with Delhi. The rival National Conference has so far held its flock together.
