The mishap seemed to have happened sometime during the early hours of Tuesday, but the local villagers noticed the car in the canal in the morning and informed the police.

“We rushed to the spot after getting the information. Five dead bodies were pulled out of the water-filled canal with the help of professional divers,” Daudnagar station house officer (SHO) Mohammad Azad Khan said.

The dead bodies have been sent for postmortem and the relatives of the deceased have been informed.
