The Commissionerate Police (Bhubaneswar and Cuttack) on Monday arrested a film producer on the charge of duping a woman assistant professor of Ravenshaw University to the tune of Rs 85 lakh.

The film producer, identified as Ajitav Mallick, cheated the assistant professor on the pretext of selling her a duplex house at Kolathia under Khandagiri police station in Bhubaneswar.

According to the complaint, Mallick received the amount from the professor in instalments in 2020. However, after getting the money,

Ajitav became incommunicado. Left with no other alternative, the professor approached the police. Mallick has been a one-film wonder. He produced a movie, Arundhati, which was a big hit at the box office.

Bandh for district
