The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Saturday announced plans to set up a permanent protest site at Lakhimpur Kheri in a couple of weeks if the Narendra Modi government refuses to take action against junior home minister Ajay Mishra Teni.

The Morcha will observe January 31 as the Day of Betrayal for the failure of the Union government to deliver on its assurances.

Rakesh Tikait of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) will lead an SKM delegation to Lakhimpur Kheri on Friday to take stock of the situation.

Briefing reporters at Singhu border after a meeting of the SKM leadership, Yudhveer Singh of the BKU said while the government was taking no action against Teni even after a special investigation team has found evidence of a conspiracy to mow down farmers protesting in the district on October 3, the farmers who retaliated against the killing had been charged with murder.
