The heat of farmers’ agitation reached NDA-ruled Bihar on Wednesday as the Opposition Grand Alliance and farmers protested on the streets against the controversial farm laws.
The agitators threw vegetables on roads at several places, burnt effigies and moved around with paddy bundles to register their protest against the farm laws and express solidarity with the farmers protesting on the outskirts of Delhi.
Various farmer organisations associated with different parties are now planning to spearhead a movement in Bihar over the deteriorating condition of farmers and the ills plaguing the agriculture sector in the state.
CPI-ML general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, CPI national executive member Kanhaiya Kumar, CPM Bihar secretary Awadhesh Kumar and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Alok Mehta took out a protest march in Patna. They lambasted the central government for bringing laws against the farmers.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has insulted the farmers by bringing these black laws. He should attend the talks with farmers and take back the farm laws. We will launch a countrywide agitation if the Union government does not accept the demands of the agitating farmers on Thursday,” Bhattacharya said.
The CPI-ML general secretary pointed out that it has become a pattern for the Centre to first try to quell people’s agitations and spread adverse publicity about them. However, when the attempts fail, it blames the Opposition for instigating them.
