One group of farmers has announced plans to go ahead with a march to the capital on Friday from Punjab's Shambhu on the border with Haryana.

"The jatha will march towards Delhi. What the government will do is for them to think. We will begin our march towards Delhi at 1pm from the Shambhu border," Sarvan Singh Pandher of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Punjab, told reporters at Shambhu.

Prohibitory orders are in force on both sides of the border between the two states. Farmers have been camping at Shambhu and Khanauri on the Punjab side since February after they were prevented by police from entering Haryana on their way to Delhi.

On Friday, a group of 101 farmers, including Pandher and Bhartiya Kisan Union (Krantikari) chairman Surjit Singh Phul, are expected to begin the march on foot.

Their main demand is a law that guarantees a minimum support price for agricultural products that is one-and-a-half times its total production cost. The Haryana government has asked them to first get permission to protest in Delhi before marching.
