The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), which spearheaded the year-long farmers agitation along Delhi’s borders between 2020 and 2021, on Saturday decided to campaign against the BJP in the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections without officially extending support to any other party in the fray.

This was decided at a joint worker-farmer mahapanchayat of the SKM and the Joint Platform of Central Trade Unions in Hisar, Haryana, on Saturday. The resolution adopted at the mahapanchayat urged the people of the state to oust the BJP from power on October 5, the day of polling.

The constituent groups of the SKM and the trade unions have decided to conduct worker-farmer panchayats in all villages and towns of Haryana to mobilise opinion against the BJP by reminding them how the state had to suffer through the agitation because of the repression unleashed by the Narendra Modi government at the Centre and then Khattar dispensation locally. This will be followed by a door-to-door campaign.

They will also bring up issues such as unemployment, minority attacks and cow vigilantism that killed a Hindu boy in Faridabad last month in a case of mistaken identity.
