The ethics committee of the Lok Sabha will hear BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai on October 26 on the complaint filed by the former against Trinamul MP Mahua Moitra about her alleged involvement in “cash for query in Parliament’’.
Both Dubey and Dehadrai are scheduled to present oral evidence before the ethics committee, according to a notice posted on the Lok Sabha website on Wednesday. The decision to call Dubey and Dehadrai to submit evidence appears to have been taken by the committee chairman Vinod Kumar Sonkar as, according to another committee member, there was no consultation with other members on the matter.
The ethics committee has not met for well over a year. It last met on July 27, 2021 to discuss the code of conduct for Lok Sabha members.
Dubey submitted his complaint to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla alleging Moitra’s direct involvement in “cash for query” on the Adani group in lieu of gifts from business tycoon Darshan Hiranandani on Sunday. It was referred to the ethics committee on Tuesday. His complaint is based on a letter from Dehadrai alleging that Moitrawas asking questions about the Adani group to protect or perpetuate the business interests of Hiranandani.
Reacting to the complaint brought against her by Dubey, the Trinamul MP had shot back in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday: “Finish the enquiries against him for false affidavits & then set up my enquiry committee. Also welcome @CBIHeadquarters enquiry into my alleged money laundering right after they finish investigating Adani’s offshore money trail, over invoicing, benami accounts. Adani may use BJP agencies to browbeat competition & buy airports but just try doing it with me.’’
