Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar may meet Union minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Tuesday evening, an NCP leader said even as caretaker chief minister Eknath Shinde was taken to a private hospital in Mumbai in the morning for a "routine check-up" amid the continuing suspense over who would be the next Maharashtra chief minister.

Shinde, whose Shiv Sena is a constituent of the BJP-led Mahayuti coalition, has been unwell for the last few days, and staying at his private residence here.

His decision to head to his village Dare in Satara district last Friday had sparked speculation that he was unhappy over the way the new Mahayuti government was shaping up.

His aides, however, said he was not well and put it down to the exertion during the campaign for the last month's Maharashtra assembly elections.

"I am fine, do not worry," Shinde told reporters as he was driven to Jupiter Hospital.

Shiv Sena leader Uday Samant said it was a "routine check-up", and Shinde would return to his official residence, Varsha, in Mumbai afterwards.

"He has had a throat infection, weakness and fever. He would be undergoing a blood test," Samant added.

The NCP’s Maharashtra chief Sunil Tatkare told journalists that party supremo Ajit Pawar “may hold” discussions with Amit Shah.

Tatkare was responding to a question about reports that Pawar had sought a meeting with the senior BJP leader but was put on a "waiting list".

No appointment had been sought, Tatkare said.

"Amit Shah is currently in Chandigarh. We may hold political discussions tonight. We will talk about what is happening," said Tatkare.

"There is no question of waiting (for appointment)," he added.

Asked about distribution of portfolios in the new Maharashtra government, set to be sworn in on Thursday, Tatkare said it would be decided at a meeting of the Mahayuti allies.

"When all leaders sit together, we will discuss the allocation of ministerial positions," he said.

About Sena leader Deepak Kesarkar expressing resentment over state BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule not informing the allies about his visit to Azad Maidan to inspect the venue of the swearing-in ceremony, Tatkare said it was a valid grievance.

"Today, all alliance leaders will conduct an inspection together. From our party, Dhananjay Munde, Anil Bhaidas Patil and Hasan Mushrif will be present," he said.
