Delhi University students’ union president Ankiv Baisoya resigned on Thursday amid allegations that his bachelor’s degree was fake and calls for him to step down.
The RSS-backed ABVP suspended Baisoya on Thursday. In a Facebook post, Baisoya urged the university administration to probe the allegation “as soon as possible”, saying he would prove the charge “false”. He said he was quitting to uphold the “dignity” of the office.
His exit leaves vice-president Shakti Singh, also from the ABVP, at the top of the students’ union.
The Congress-backed NSUI said: “The ABVP, ably supported by a supine DU administration, waited for two months in an attempt to retain the DUSU presidentship with ABVP instead of asking him to step down when the matter came to light.”
