NDA presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu was accorded a grand welcome in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
BJP workers, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leaders and ministers from Odisha government received her at the airport from where she was escorted to the state guesthouse.
Murmu had a meeting with legislators and MPs of the BJD and BJP leaders where the issue of presidential election and the importance of support to her were discussed. She had a meeting with the chief minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik and other leaders in the state Assembly.
Naveen had also hosted a lunch for her at Naveen Niwas.
“It has been a pleasure having the company of presidential candidate from Odisha Smt Droupadi Murmu, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and BJD MP Pinaki Misra. Had a wonderful time over lunch with Odia delicacies.” Naveen tweeted.
Murmu recalled how she had tied a rakhi to the chief minister as he was like a brother to her.
“Like a brother Naveen supported my candidature,” she said. Murmu appealed all to support the daughter of this soil.
Describing herself as a daughter of Odisha, she recalled her political journey when she became a councillor, a legislator, a minister and then the governor of Jharkhand.
“I tried to give my best in every role. Still many things are left for me to do. I will try hard to ensure that our state feel proud of me,” she said.
