Doctors at a hospital in South Kashmir’s Bijbehara district are earning praise for holding their nerve and carrying on with a surgery while tremors of a massive earthquake drove most residents out of their homes in the Valley on Tuesday night.

A video of the surgery, which has gone viral, shows the medical team of doctors and paramedics conducting an emergency caesarean section amid strong earthquake tremors. Both the woman and the baby are safe. A 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan at 10.17pm on Tuesday night.

Strong tremors, which lasted nearly a minute, were felt in Jammu and Kashmir. Although there were no casualties, it revived the memories of the 2005 earthquake that had killed hundreds in Kashmir.

A host of videos from the Valley show residents rushing out of buildings but what caught the attention was one that shows the medical staff at the Bijbehara hospital keeping their calm to complete the surgery.
