Delhi University (DU) on Monday launched a portal where students seeking admission to undergraduate (UG) courses would register.
The students can log on to the website of the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) where they can register by paying a fee.
This is the first year the top university has discontinued the board marks-based selection and has adopted Common University Entrance Test (CUET) as the only route for selection. Admissions will be done in 79 UG programmes across 67 colleges or departments.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has conducted the CUET-UG. While applying for CUET, students were required to mention their preferred universities for UG education. Vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh told reporters that about 6.14 lakh students from across the country have named DU as their preferred university. Every year, 2.5 lakh to 2.75 lakh students apply for UG courses in DU colleges.
Singh said CSAS will be conducted in three phases in which the first phase will be for applying to DU, the second phase will be preference filling and the third phase will be seat allotment-cum-admission.
Singh appealed to students to fill in as many choices as possible so that they do not face any problem with the allotment of the colleges and subjects of their choice.
Dean of admission, Haneet Gandhi, said while registering, the candidates will also have to write their details and submit the marks of all the subjects in which they have passed Class XII. The second phase of CSAS will start after the declaration of the CUET-UG result. At this stage, candidates will have to select their programme and college combination and fill in their preferences. The order of selection of programme and college combination will also determine the order of preference for allotment of seats.
In the third phase, seats and colleges will be allotted based on the CUET performance of the student. The seat allocation will be centralised. The candidate has to ‘accept’ the seat allotted to him before the specified date.
Non-acceptance will be treated as a decline in the provisionally allotted seat and the candidate will no longer be able to participate in the subsequent rounds. If a candidate is offered multiple seats in a particular round, he or she should accept only one seat.
Once the candidate accepts the provisionally allotted seat, the concerned college will check the eligibility and documents uploaded by the candidate. Once the college approves, the candidate has to pay the admission fee and take admission.
If some seats are vacant, the university will hold further rounds of seat allocation.
Candidates who have failed to apply for CSAS-2022 within the last dates due to any reason can participate in CSAS-2022 by paying Rs 1000 as a mid-entry fee.
In the first round itself, the university will allot seats to 30 per cent additional students in the SC-ST category than the number of seats available and 20 per cent additional seats in general and OBC category. This is done to neutralise the cases of withdrawal or non-participation.
