The Delhi Congress will organise public meets in solidarity with the women wrestlers who have accused Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment, a party leader said on Friday.
These "chaupal" meetings will be held on June 11. "The first public meet will start at 11 am on Sunday in Babarpur. Another meeting will be held in Mehrauli in the second half of the day," a party leader said.
All senior Delhi Congress leaders are expected to attend these meetings.
According to the party leader, Devender Yadav, whose name has been doing the rounds for the post of Delhi Congress president, planned these meetings in support of the women wrestlers.
The wrestlers have demanded the arrest of outgoing WFI chief Singh, who they have accused of sexually exploiting women wrestlers.
The Delhi Police, which has recorded statements of more than 200 people in connection with the case, will file a charge sheet in the case by June 15, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has assured the protesting wrestlers.
The wrestlers have agreed to halt their protest until then.
