In a welcome respite for the capital city, Delhi experienced a gentle shower this evening, raising hopes among residents for an improvement in the city's deteriorating air quality, reports NDTV. The pollution levels had soared to near-severe levels earlier in the day, exacerbated by stagnant winds and overcast skies that trapped pollutants. The rain also caused some disruptions in flight operations, some reports suggest.

The much-needed precipitation comes as a result of a western disturbance caused by an intense circulation over central Pakistan. This weather phenomenon led to the formation of clouds over Delhi, according to RK Jenamani, a scientist from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Jenamani indicated that these clouds are expected to linger until tomorrow, offering a potential reprieve from the persistent pollution.

According to media reports, the minimum temperature recorded today was 13.4 degrees Celsius, marking a departure of three notches above the season's average. The day commenced with brisk winds and a forecast for a cloudy sky with the promise of light rain. The relative humidity at 8:30 am was notably high, standing at 97 per cent.

The combination of rain and lightning not only brings a refreshing change to Delhi's weather but also holds the promise of cleansing the air. The residents, grappling with the adverse effects of air pollution, are hopeful that this weather pattern will contribute to a significant improvement in the air quality index.

As the city welcomes the much-anticipated rainfall, authorities and citizens alike are optimistic that the precipitation will wash away the accumulated pollutants, providing relief to the respiratory health of the residents. With the clouds expected to persist for another day, Delhiites are holding onto the prospect of breathing cleaner air in the near future.
