The Opposition Congress and the Gandhi family continued to face attacks as Parliament proceedings were paralysed for the fourth day on Tuesday.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla reprimanded “prominent leaders” of the Opposition for staging “indecent protests” on Parliament premises while the leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, J.P. Nadda, continued to indirectly target Sonia Gandhi over her alleged links with an organisation advocating an “independent Kashmir”.

“I have been seeing that the kind of slogans, posters and masks being used on Parliament premises are not only indecent but are also against Parliament process and tradition,” Birla told the House. “I have to say with regret that the conduct of prominent leaders of the Opposition has not been according to the dignity of Parliament,” he added.

The Congress led by Rahul Gandhi has been resorting to different kinds of protests to allege links between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani. On Monday, Congress members had staged protests wearing Modi and Adani masks.

During Question Hour, some Opposition members demanded action against BJP MP Sambit Patra for a “defamatory” attack against the leader of the Opposition. “You don’t want to run the House?” Birla asked and adjourned the House till noon.

In the Rajya Sabha, Nadda alleged that the Forum of Democratic Leaders of Asia Pacific, which was co-chaired by Sonia, supported “independence” for Kashmir and posed a threat tonational integrity.

“A Congress leader is chairing an organisation that is posing a threat to India’s security. I want to ask what the relationship between Soros and the Congress party is?” Nadda said.

Congress leader Pramod Tiwari rejected the charges as “baseless” and accused the Modi government of receiving bribe from a private firm.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day as the ruling side protested against the alleged Soros-Congress links and the Opposition demanded a discussion on the bribery charges against Adani.

When the Lok Sabha reassembled at noon, parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju said during Zero Hour: “The Congress should clarify their relation with George Soros and other anti-India forces and tender an apology in this House.” This prompted a loud protest by the Congress and other Opposition members, forcing adjournment for the day.
