The crime branch of Odisha police, in its chargesheet in the former minister Naba Kishore Das murder case, has described the crime as pre-planned and executed by the assistant sub-inspector of police Gopal Krishna Das alone.

Personal animosity has been shown as the cause behind Gopal taking the extreme step to eliminate Das.

The minister was murdered on January 29 by Gopal at Brajrajnagar in Jharsuguda district. He shot the minister with his service revolver from a close range while the minister was getting out of his car to attend a meeting.

“During interrogation, the accused Gopal Krishna Das revealed that he was preparing to kill Naba Kishore Das for some time. In order to succeed in his plan, he also visited the Samaleswari temple in Sambalpur with his brother Satya Narayan Das and observed his mundan and took an oath to kill Naba Das any how in near future. He made an attempt to shoot him during the inauguration of the statue of late Kishore Mohanty in Brajrajnagar but could not get an opportunity for the same. Since then he had kept his service pistol always loaded,” the chargesheet said.

Gopal, 53, came to know about the January 29 programme of the minister at Brajrajnagar. He went to his brother's hotel near Gandhi Chhak in Brajrajnagar in the morning. “He dropped his brother and his staff at the railway station on bike on January 29 morning and after that he went to his quarters and got ready for duty. He wrote the reasons of his killing Naba Kishore Das by a red sketch pen on 25 to 30 medical prescription slips,” said the statement.
