CPI MP Binoy Viswam has urged all political parties to come together to defeat the Sangh parivar and the BJP, expressing concern over the rights of minority communities.

Viswam, who was in Calcutta on Saturday to inaugurate the delegate session of the 30th conference of the Bengal Provincial Bank Employees’ Association, said: “We appeal to all political parties to clear their differences and come together to fight for the freedom and democracy of the people of this nation.”

The Left leader also pointed out that the people of the working class should take up the task to save democracy.

“The working class will not let democracy die and will not bow down before the dictatorship of the present system,” he said, referring to the BJP’s agenda of a “Hindu Rashtra”.

“The RSS mentions Christians, Muslims and communists as threats to the nation, in the same lines as Hitler who had labelled Jews, Christians, trade unions and communists as threats. We should think about the rights of minorities if there is a Hindu Rashtra,” said the Rajya Sabha MP from Kerala.

Viswam, who is also the secretary of the CPI’s national council, said the same forces were trying to privatise banks and public sector undertakings. The plan, he pointed out, has been drawn to infringe on the rights of employees.

“The leaders of bank unions should congregate under the banner of AIBEA. It is for the interest of bank employees as well as for common people as the same forces are trying to privatise banks and PSUs. We want people’s money to be used only for their cause,” he said.
