The Meghalaya government has made wearing of face masks mandatory in all public spaces and workplaces.
Amending the Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases, Covid-19 Regulations, 2020, the health department has noted that wearing of face mask or face cover will be compulsory in all public spaces and workplaces for all residents, with or without a medical condition, except for children below two years of age and asthma patients. Residents must use a “homemade protective cover for face and mouth” while venturing outdoors, it said.
The amendment says all persons in charge of public places, workplaces and transport should ensure at least six feet (two metres) distance between people, according to Union health and family welfare ministry’s guidelines.
The amendment has prohibited use of smokeless tobacco and spitting in public space.
Meghalaya has 14 active cases, all detected among returnees (11,000 stranded citizens have returned) from other parts of the country. Twelve patients have recovered while the first patient died last month.
Positive cases up in Tripura
Seventeen more returnees, including those coming in from Maharashtra and Bangladesh, tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday.
Chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb tweeted: “798 people tested today for COVID-19 out of which 17 people found #POSITIVE. Among them, 15 returnees from Maharashtra & 2 Bangladesh returnees. #TripuraCOVID19Count.”
The state has reported 271 cases so far, of which 171 people have recovered. There are 97 active cases at present. Tripura is currently testing 6,355 people per million, one of the highest testing rates across India.
