The Central Board of Secondary Education on Monday announced that pending Class X and Class XII board exams would be held from July 1-15 with strict distancing norms in place.

The exams had been postponed because of the nationwide Covid-19 lockdown from March 25.

While the Class XII boards will be conducted across the country, the Class X exams are pending only in North East Delhi, where the tests could not be held because of the law and order situation in the wake of protests against the new citizenship matrix.

“The Class X exams will be staggered on four dates, starting July 1. The first paper will be of social sciences, while the next day students will be required to appear in the science exam,” CBSE controller of examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj said.

“On July 10, exams will be conducted for both courses of Hindi, and on July 15 for both courses of English.”

Bhardwaj said the students would have to carry their own sanitiser bottles and wear masks to exam centres.

“Parents will have to ensure their ward is not sick and candidates will have to strictly follow physical-distancing norms,” he said.

The date sheet for the Class XII boards has two sections — one for exams in North East Delhi and the other for exams across the country.

In North East Delhi, the physics exam will be held on July 3, accountancy on July 4, chemistry on July 6, English on July 8 and political science on July 14.

On July 15, four Class XII exams have been scheduled in North East Delhi — mathematics, economics, history and biology.

For the Class XII exams across the country, the home science exam will be held on July 1, followed by both courses of Hindi the next day.

The Class XII business studies exam has been scheduled for July 9 followed by biotechnology on July 10 and geography on July 11. The sociology exam will be held on July 13.

The board had not been able to conduct the Class X and XII board tests on eight exam days following the coronavirus outbreak. The law and order situation in North East Delhi also came in the way of conducting exams on four exam days, while a very small number of students from and around this district were not able to appear in exams on six days.

The board had last month announced that it would only conduct pending exams in 29 subjects crucial for promotion and admission to higher educational institutions. The modalities of assessment for the subjects in which exams are not being conducted will be announced soon.

The schedule has been decided to ensure that the board tests are over before the competitive exams get under way. The JEE-Main, the entrance exam for admission to engineering colleges, is scheduled from July 18-23, and the medical entrance exam NEET is scheduled for July 26.
