A 30-year-old woman walking from Maharashtra to her village in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, delivered a child on the way, said a police officer in Barwani on Sunday.
The woman, identified as Shakuntala, and the baby, her fourth child, were doing fine, said inspector V.S. Parihar.
“The woman and her family were part of a group moving from Nashik to Satna,” he said.
“She said her family had covered 210km on foot. Women in the group helped in the delivery that took place by the side of a road, she told us. We have arranged for a bus to take the woman, her children and her husband to their native village,” he added.
Thousands of migrants have been walking hundreds of miles back home in the lockdown.
