The Centre has stopped all incoming passenger traffic through 107 immigration check posts, including all airports, seaports, land ports and river posts as part of the measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
In a notification, the Union home ministry exempted vehicles or trains carrying goods for trade or essential goods and supplies.
The order added: “Vehicles/trains carrying goods for trade or essential goods and supplies are exempted from this prohibition along with their crew, driver, helper, cleaner etc, subject to their thorough screening by medical staff for Covid-19.”
Earlier this month, India had suspended most visas for foreigners and stopped flights to several affected countries.
The government had also suspended cross-border passenger bus and train services with Bangladesh till April 15 and closed 18 immigration check posts with four neighbouring countries.
