Inspector of police Trinath Sethy, who allegedly misbehaved with Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi in the run-up to the election, has been transferred from Keonjhar to Gajapati.
An order to this effect was issued by the inspector-general (IG) of police (personnel) at the police headquarters on Friday.
Trinath Sethy, who was the inspector-in-charge (ICC) of Keonjhar Sadar Police Station, had misbehaved with Majhi and asked him to leave the police station when the latter had gone there with the people to lodge a protest on the issue of drinking water supply in villages. At that time, Majhi was an MLA and no one had thought that he would be the chief minister of the state.
The incident took place in the first week of May when Majhi joined the villagers of Raisuan and Gopinathpur panchayats who had blocked the national highway, demanding a regular water supply to their area. Senior officials later intervened and it was decided that a meeting would be held on the issue at the police station. Later, agitation was called off and the road blockade was lifted.
Sethy had called the villagers to the police station. Being the local MLA of Keonjhar, Majhi accompanied the locals to the station. In a video, police inspector Sethy is purportedly seen asking Majhi why he had come to the police station when the election process was on. He was seen asking Majhi to leave the police station failing which stern action would be taken against him.
Later, Majhi and local people held a demonstration in front of the police station, demanding action against the police officer. Following the intervention of senior officials, Majhi called off the agitation and left the place.
