The Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court, Bhubaneswar, has allowed the Odisha Crime Branch to do a polygraph test on the police inspector, accused of manhandling the Army captain and his fiancée inside a police station.
The police inspector, Dinakrushna Mishra, who is under suspension, has also given his consent to appear for the polygraph test. The inspector will be taken to Gandhi Nagar to undergo the polygraph test, as well as brain-mapping and narco-analysis tests.
Sources said that the crime branch also wants to subject the woman, who has brought allegations against policemen, to a polygraph test.
The crime branch on Wednesday recreated the crime scene where a group of men allegedly harassed the army captain and his fiancée.
Local police have refuted the allegation of sexual assault on the woman and claimed that she was in an inebriated state and assaulted the police.
The retired police officers’ association has also come out in support of the police.
Policemen were accused of sexually assaulting the woman when she went with her fiancée to the Bharatpur police station to lodge a road rage complaint on the intervening night of September 14 and September 15.
Seeing the sensitive nature of the case, the Crime Branch has decided to use the polygraph test to reach a conclusion and avoid taking any risk. “We want to investigate the issue fairly,” said a senior official.
The Odisha High Court has also expressed confidence in the investigating agency and declined to intervene in its investigation process.
Odisha police have assigned a Personal Security Officer (PSO) to the Army Captain and his fiancée, after the woman expressed concern about her security.
