The Congress on Tuesday billed the first 100 days of the third Modi government rudderless, marked by a litany of “disasters and reversals”.
The government completed 100 days on Tuesday, spurring a slew of events to mark the occasion.
Reprimanding the government for ignoring unemployment yet again, AICC communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh said: “The crisis has been of the government’s own making, caused by the decimation of job-creating MSMEs through the Tughlakian demonetisation, a hastily rushed through GST, an unplanned Covid-19 lockdown and rising imports from China. The final straw has been the non-biological PM’s economic policy of favouring large conglomerates. India’s unemployment rate today is the highest it has been in 45 years, with the unemployment rate for graduate youth at 42 per cent."
His colleague K.C. Venugopal chastised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not delivering on his “grand 100 agenda” promised during the election campaign.
“As we look back at the 100 days of the NDA government, we see a whole host of disasters, reversals and a directionless government that is completely failing the people of India."
Stating that a brief scan of the major events since June 4 — the day of the Lok Sabha election results — tells “how disastrous this regime has already been”, he listed some of the failures as Manipur remaining unsettled with advanced weapons like rocket launchers and drones being used by militants; paper leaks and exam cancellations; railway accidents; and a budget that levied fresh taxes on the middle class.
In a related statement, Ramesh also took on Union home minister Amit Shah for claiming that the situation in Manipur is normal; asking why then has Modi not visited the state even once since May 3, 2023, when the violence began.
The Prime Minister had avoided the strife-hit state during the Lok Sabha election campaign also.
