Congress president Sonia Gandhi was admitted to the Gangaram Hospital here on Sunday because of Covid complications.
“Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Ganga Ram Hospital today owing to Covid-related issues,” party communications chief Randeep Surjewala tweeted in the afternoon.
“She is stable and will be kept at the hospital for observation. We thank all the Congress men & women as also all well wishers for their concern and good wishes.”
Sonia had been talking to Opposition leaders such as Mamata Banerjee and Sharad Pawar despite her illness to discuss the possibility of fielding a common candidate in the presidential election.
She has now deputed Mallikarjun Kharge to continue the discussions and convince the friendly parties about the need to ensure a contest.
Several party leaders such as Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh chief ministers Ashok Gehlot and Bhupesh Baghel wished her a speedy recovery.
