The Karnataka government is set to implement the recommendations of the 2015 caste census conducted during the previous tenure of the Congress and work towards increasing the quota limit.

Chief minister Siddaramaiah, a strong advocate of social justice, has assured a delegation of leaders from the OBC, minority, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities that met him on Tuesday that his government was determined to fulfil its election promise and implement the socio-economic and education census, popularly known as caste census, that has been gathering dust since he lost power in 2018.

Following his meeting with the delegation, Siddaramaiah tweeted that his government would accept the report. “Scientific and accurate information is essential for providing reservation and other facilities. A caste-wise survey was conducted for this purpose. We will now receive the report and take appropriate action based on the data contained therein.”

The chief minister assured the delegation that his government would work towards lifting the 50 per cent cap on reservation and take it to 75 per cent to accommodate the hopes and aspirations of all communities.
