Congress MLA from Ramgarh in Jharkhand, Mamta Devi, has been convicted by the special MPMLA Court in Hazaribagh of Jharkhand for wrongful assembly and inciting violence.
The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on December 12.
After the conviction by the court on Thursday evening, the Congress MLA and eight others were taken into custody and shifted to Hazaribagh jail.
The special MP-MLA court held Mamta Devi guilty of all the sections imposed on her which put her Assembly membership at risk.
On August 20, 2016, nearly 150 villagers under the banner of Nagrik Chetna Manch, led by the then Ramgarh zilla parishad chairperson Mamta Devi, sat on a dharna for the closure of the IPL company located in Gola police station area of Ramgarh.
Suddenly the agitating villagers became violent during the dharna and the police had to resort to firing in self-defence which led to the death of two persons.
