The Congress has launched a nationwide campaign to expose the hollowness of the Modi government’s “reservation” for women in Parliament and legislatures which may not come into being for the next decade orso.

The party organised 21 media conferences in different state capitals, telling the people how the Prime Minister made a mockery of women’s reservation and was seeking credit for something which he hadn’t done. All the media conferences were addressed by woman leaders. They alleged that women’s empowerment for Modi is just a deception like Rs 15 lakh in everybody’s account, two crore jobs every year and bullet trains.

Explaining the details about unnecessary conditions in the form of census and delimitation, they said Modi invented tricks to delay the implementation because the RSS-BJP is ideologically not committed to women’s empowerment.

They recalled how the Congress always worked for gender equality, with voting rights for women since the very beginning after the Independence and 33 per cent reservation for women in the panchayati raj system.

They pointed out how the Modi government bulldozed political resistance and legal hurdles to pass bills which they desperately wanted to. But they chose not to give reservation to women immediately because the RSS is anti-women and they wanted to use this critical reform only as an electoral gimmick.
