The Congress has decided to counter the BJP’s diversionary tactics with full force to ensure that the electoral discourse remains focused on real concerns of the people and the agenda for future governance.
A large number of Congress leaders will begin the drive on Thursday by holding media conferences in 22 major cities on the party’s manifesto. Other cities and small towns will be covered next week.
The Congress leadership believes the manifesto is a unique document that addresses all vital concerns of the people — from jobs and farm crisis to women’s safety and environment — and offers ideas to take India forward in the next five years.
The Congress is determined to counter the BJP’s purported attempts to mislead the people through distortion and misrepresentation of the manifesto.
The Congress leaders countered the propaganda on the proposed withdrawal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in Jammu and Kashmir by pointing out that the Narendra Modi government did the same in Arunachal Pradesh recently.
The BJP government withdrew AFSPA from Meghalaya too.
On sedition, the Congress said the problem with the redundant law became evident when the Modi government began using it indiscriminately to harass political opponents and activists.
