Chief Justice S.A. Bobde on Tuesday recused himself from hearing the review petition filed by one of the men sentenced to death for gang-raping and murdering a paramedical student in a Delhi bus in 2012.

No official reason was cited for the recusal from hearing Akshay Kumar Singh’s plea. Sources claimed that Justice Bobde did so as his nephew Arjun Bobde is representing the victim’s family.

The other members in the bench are Justices R. Banumathi and Ashok Bhushan. The reconstituted bench will have Justice A.S. Boppanna besides Justices Banumathi and Bhushan. The petition will be heard on Wednesday.
