Bihar police on Thursday detained a Chinese woman who had allegedly overstayed her visa and spied on the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan spiritual leader, in Bodh Gaya.
The woman was held from the Kalchakra grounds in Bodh Gaya, where the Dalai Lama started his three-day religious discourse on Thursday.
She has been identified as Song Xiaolan.
The Bihar police’s intelligence wing had received inputs about Song from central intelligence agencies and conveyed it to Gaya district officials. The Bihar police had also released her sketch.
“We had received intelligence inputs that a Chinese national — a woman — has overstayed her visa. She could be present in Bodh Gaya. We started looking for her,” Gaya senior superintendent of police Harpreet Kaur told The Telegraph.
Sources in the police said that Song had been staying in different parts of India and could be spying on the Dalai Lama, who is already a target of terrorist organisations and hostile countries.
Song came to India for the first time on October 19, 2019. She has been mostly staying in Bodh Gaya. Song had also visited Nepal in between.
“We are sending her to the foreigners regional registration office in Delhi for deportation,” Kaur said.
