Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday inaugurated the Bagchi Sri Shankara Cancer Centre and Research Institute, a 750-bed comprehensive cancer hospital built on 22 acres here under the supervision of the Bangalore-based Sri Shankara Cancer Foundation.
The Rs 410-crore hospital has facilities to provide radiotherapy to 300 patients and chemotherapy to 150 patients daily.
Subroto Bagchi, the co-founder of IT company Mind Tree, and his wife Susmita Bagchi donated Rs 340 crore for the hospital. The state government has provided 22 acres of land for the hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Inaugurating the hospital, the chief minister said: “The new hospital will be instrumental in providing quality and affordable treatment to cancer patients of Odisha as well as the eastern region of the country.
“The hospital can cater to the needs of at least one-third of cancer patients in the state.”
